Oster 5838 ExpressBake Breadmaker, White Reviews
Every loaf of bread I've made has turned out wonderful. Just make sure you put the ingredients in the same order that the book has you do them. This past weekend I used the dough cycle for the first time and made the best dinner rolls ever. You may have to get a gym membership because the bread is so good, you will want to bake it a lot.
This has been the BEST purchase of any kitchen appliance I've made in several years. I went to allrecipes.com and found several recipes there and have tried them and they also have worked great. I always use bread flour and you need to get your measurements right.
I think both these things are the key to getting a great loaf of bread. I started using just the recipes in the book provided which were all really good.
It turns out beautifully. I always remove the bread as soon as it is done, fold it up in a dish towel and let it cool on a wire rack. After returning 2 breadman machines within 2 weeks, I purchased the Oster (and it was cheaper).
My husband and son like the long loaf style (my old machine was the tall loaf style). I have not tried the other cycles (bread in less than an hour just doesn't seem right - and you have to adjust the recipe). The crust was much thicker and very hard, but the bread still tasted delicious. The express-bake recipes will not work on the normal cycle, nor will the normal bake recipes work on the express-bake cycle. The motor sounds a little weak, but so far has kneaded the dough well (I only bake 1.5 lb loaves). The recipes are separated according to express-bake and normal bake. Sometimes a little flour is left in the corners, but it makes no difference in the flavor or constituency of the bread.
I am very pleased with it. My husband baked a loaf one day and forgot to get it right away - by the time he remembered, the bread had cooled in the pan. A note of caution - make sure that you are following the correct recipe for the type of setting. I also tried my own recipe which worked well once I adjusted for the yeast (for 1.5 pound loaf - no more than 2 tsp of yeast - just a quarter tsp more and it falls). I am very, very pleased for the price. The country white bread recipe on the normal bake cycle works perfectly.
Why not just say 13 ounces of water, Oster. For that round, I added too little water because I didn't realize that 1 and 5/8 cups was more than 1 1/2 cups. I found it online, and that was a huge plus. (Stupid fractions. I got this breadmaker my first from my local FreeCycle group.
In my first loaf, I hand mixed the ingredients and then realized I still had to add the yeast a crucial mistake that would have caused a huge mess, I'm told. That kind of makes up for my public school education). (Thanks Oster. The bread came out with the consistency of sand. (On the third loaf, I also tried the delay setting (adding 20 minutes) and found it worked just fine, and so I'll keep experimenting with that).
I'm very happy with it, though I have made mistakes. That's a measuring cup I actually have). Since I got mine free, I couldn't complain about the missing manual. So with my third try, I got it right with a little help from the Hill Billy Housewife's blog. Now I have this great loaf, and I'm ready to bake another loaf before I hit the hay tonight.
I started over from scratch.
es muy fácil de usar y sale bien con las recetas que trae incluidas, pero no trajo ningún medidor de materiales. good machine. buen producto. la uso 4 veces por semana y hay día que hago dos pan. otras si la traen, pero para el precio esta bien.
We went out an purchase the Oster 5838 because it was a horizontal bread machine. Enjoy. Both came out better than my old bread machine loaves. I would recommend this one to anyone who wants to bake their own bread. This machine has worked well.
I had an seven year old White Westinghouse bread machine that eventually broke. So far I've only baked 2 loaves of regular white bread. We really like this one. I liked it so much I took a few pictures to show the product and the bread. The bread was wonderful.
We had a vertical and I wanted to try something different this time.
