Oxo Good Grips Shrimp Cleaner

Nothing mars the presentation of pearly pink shrimp more than unsightly black veins, which are in fact not veins at all, but the alimentary canals of the shrimp. Now anyone who paid any attention at all in junior high biology knows that an alimentary canal is not high on the list of good things to eat. Get rid of them easily and efficiently with this specialized tool.

The sharp, square teeth of the shrimp cleaner by Oxo remove the shell and devein the shrimp in one easy motion, eliminating the need to peel even the smallest shrimp. Insert the ridged shrimp cleaner into the end of the shrimp and pull.

The Good Grips line features durable, nonslip flexible handles on every product. Ergonomically designed to fit the palm comfortably and softly, the pressure-absorbing processed rubber handles put less tension on the hands, while providing an outstanding grip. Made from the same material dishwasher gaskets are constructed of, the handles are slip-proof, wet or dry, as well as dishwasher-safe. Good Grips products are moderately priced and have won the Tylenol/Arthritis Foundation Design Award. --Laurie Notaro

Oxo Good Grips Shrimp Cleaner Reviews

bought it for my husband, haven't used it yet but he said it is just what he needed.

My wife found it faster to just use her nails. Shrimps get mangled. Might be good for very large shrimp though, but not for medium ones. We love OXO products, but this one is not one of them.

Luckily, after I ordered it, I found my old cheapie that had been misplaced during our move. PK I am hoping to find another use for it. The large handles prevents my bad finger from locking trying to hold something of small diameter. I would suggest saving your money and buying one of the cheap plastic ones that work on the push stroke, and peels the shrimp by breaking the underside instead of cutting the shell down the back.

I don't like the way this thing works. I ruined more shrimp than I peeled with this one. I find that rather sad, because I like the other OXO products I have purchased. ;0)). Maybe a grout remover.

This OXO product is easy to use and because of the large soft handle, easy to hold. Slip off the shell with legs attached from the bottom and voila.shelled shrimp. Just hold a de-headed shrimp under a slow drizzle of running cold water insert the tip into the "vein" and follow the curve around to the back of the tail. It seems sturdy enough to me, I don't really understand why some reviewers think that it's flimsy.

Not as good as the last one we had, which was longer and not serrated.
