Providing myriad options, this automatic bread maker embodies the marvels of 21st century electronic convenience and choice. Yes, it mixes, kneads, rises, and bakes bread in three loaf sizes up to 2-1/2 pounds. But its digital controls go much further, offering settings for white, whole wheat, multigrain, and French (crisp crust, open texture) breads, each made according to what's best for that particular style. Other settings permit rapid baking and baking sandwich bread with a soft crust. For raisin (or other dried-fruit) bread, a beeper signals when to add the fruit so it's not crushed during kneading. Crust color--dark or light--can be selected as well. The machine automatically adds yeast at the proper time from a dispenser on the unit's lid. It also bakes non-yeast, quick breads-- like banana and gingerbread--and sweet cakes. And it mixes, kneads, and rises doughs for pizza, focaccia, croissants, and other pastries without baking them. A timer permits the machine to be programmed up to 13 hours in advance so fresh bread or cake is available for breakfast or dinner. For cleanup convenience, the baking pan is nonstick. Clad in metal and packing 550 watts of power, the machine measures 14 inches wide, 13.5 inches high, and 9 inches deep. Its instruction booklet is exceptionally easy to understand and includes recipes for 40 breads and doughs along with an insightful guide to baking basics and illustrated tips for making pastries. --Fred Brack

Panasonic SD-YD250 Automatic Bread Maker Reviews
This was my first attempt at making bread and never really thought it would succeed but now I call myself the best baker in town. But overall a great machine which gives fantastic results. the if at all cons are it takes about 4 hours to bake and is a bit noisy during the kneading cycle. The machine is easy to use as long as you stick to the instructions which are as easy as saying 1,2,3 u will do good. Already tried about 6-7 varieties of bread all had happy endings. I own the machine for about 1 month now.
A few notes. It's like fresh bread just magically appears every week. Fortunately, Amazon has a great returns policy. However, we lock the cats up at night so we can set the timer and bake the bread overnight. Love it. Great breadmaker. This is something of an issue for us because we have ravenous cats that get into everything. Our first breadmaker Amazon shipped us was cracked because they just threw the breadmaker box into a box twice the size with no packing.
Works well. Be sure to check yours as soon as it arrives. This is our only breadmaker so this may be how all breadmakers are - I have no idea. Fresh bread in the morning. Also, the lid doesn't lock down. I especially love that my husband loves it.
We have tried cutting the expensive new whole wheat flour with unbleached regular flour. We have use other bread makers in the past, and have never had this consistent of a problem. I bought this for my girlfriend for Christmas. We did use it to make pizza dough once, and that turned out okay so that's why I didn't just give it one star.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT. We have always use new yeast, but to no avail it seems to always come out extremely short, dense, and burned on the sides. Amazon is only offering a partial refund. I think the problem is in the yeast dispensing mechanism. Now since it has been use, and I bought it just over thirty days ago, I have to deal with the hassle of returning the product to Panasonic for a full refund.
We have used it three times so far trying a variety of different whole wheat type loaves, so far all three have failed to rise properly and have been burnt.
It takes no time at all to put the ingredients in and clean up of the unit after the bread is done is very quick and easy as well. The bread comes out fluffy and consistent every time and the timer function makes it great to wake up to fresh bread. This bread maker works wonderfully.
