Pancake Puffs Cast Iron Set Reviews
The wife tried 3-4 times with some brownie mix she made, the brownies were all rock hard or they burned or they were raw. Disclaimer - My wife is not exactly wolfgang puck, there is a chance of user error. There should not be any issue with storage space. Ok, normally im not a big fan of kitchen gadgets, because normally they are a pain to clean (even though they claim easy cleaning) and just dont perform very well at all.
2) It works just as you see on tv, very easy, the pancake puffs come right out every time, very little mess, and it cooks fast. So i picked her up one for Christmas, and she got it today on christmas eve and i am actually pretty impressed with it. still works great on pancakes. It may actually be quicker to use this than a regular skillet pan. For now, i rate it 4 out of 5 stars. My wife has seen this on tv many times and has shown great interest in it, but i usually blow it off and ignore it.
3) there is nothing complicated about this. EDIT: This thing does not work well with brownies apparently. So, it is December 24 2008 today. If any impressions of this change i will be sure to come in and re-evaluate my review of this. 1) It is not very big.
There are several tricks to get the puffs to cook correctly and those aren't in the information guide. I was so excited to get this kit, as were my children. But in the end it is just easier and faster to cook pancakes or waffles. However, once I figured out the tricks my children loved eating them. Also, the recipe book was a joke. I was very dissappointed in that aspect. It took a little trial and error to get the hang of it.
Cake batter didn't fair so well either. But they just don't puff up well. They didn't advertise it but thought I would try it. They just didn't really puff up and came out pretty flat and falling apart. I did manage to get a few to turn if I kept the batter thin, stayed on low heat, etc.
I tried quite a few different batters in this today. Brownies did not work at ALL. I had the heat completely on low and they burned and never really turned. You have to keep the heat down low for sure, my setting was on number 1. They come out lovely as long as you follow those 2 steps. I would not really recommend it for a larger family. The down side is that you need a low heat so it takes a long time to make them. I dried it down and oiled it so hopefully it will prevent rusting.
They are cute and fun for the kids, but to feed a family of 5, I would realistically need about 3 of them to make it work. Omelets didn't hold up so well. The actual pancake batter was the only thing that worked, and it worked well. I can't comment on the cleaning since I just got it today. I gave the rating a 3 because it does work well with pancake mix, and would be nice for 1 or 2 people. You also have to use a fair amount of oil or else they will stick. I'm surprisedthey even advertised brownie batter.
They all got torn apart and burnt and I'm not even sure they were edible. This is the last "As Seen on TV" product I will ever want. He even bought some brownie mix to make brownie puffs. This product is a disgrace to pancakes. When we tried making pancake puffs, we had to destroy half of them to flip them and only one survived.
We ended up returning it to the store. It was a little bit bigger than a quarter. When we tried making brownie puffs, it was even worse. My younger brother talked my mom into getting it.
He was ecstatic when he unwrapped this gift for his 6th birthday. My grandson saw this product advertised on TV. So, it was great to find it on Amazon and see so many different versions. They made puffs for breakfast the next day. No problems using this item. Pancakes are his favorite food. No store had this specific item.
